Caterpillar, China--Caterpillar New Facility in China

Caterpillar has announced plans to expand its manufacturing facilities in China in an effort to meet growing customer demand. Caterpillar will produce hydraulic excavator models below 8-ton (7.27 tonne) at the new facility in Wujiang. The facility will be part of Caterpillar's Building Construction Products (BCP) Division, which has manufacturing operations in the US, Japan, Brazil and the UK. Work on the new facility is expected to start later this year government pending approval. Caterpillar expects to begin producing mini excavators in Wujiang in 2012.

At present Caterpillar supplies Chinese customers with mini excavators produced at its Xuzhou, China facility in and with machines produced in Sagami, Japan. Once the facility in Wujiang is producing machines, manufacturing operations in Xuzhou and Sagami will increase production of other product lines. China is the world's largest market for excavators in the below 8-ton class, and the development of this new facility will better position Caterpillar to provide customers in China with solutions that will help them succeed.

Active in China for over 30 years Caterpillar currently operates eleven manufacturing facilities, three research and development centres, nine offices and two logistics and parts centres employing more than 6000 people.
