Hino, ZF, truck--Hino embraces ZF technology

Hino has embraced European transmission technology with the launch of a new Hino 700 Series equipped with a ZF 16 speed automated manual transmission

 Previous, Stop, Play, Next, ZoomThe new Hino 700, just launched in Australia, features the ZF AS Tronic automated manual transmission as an option on the SS 2848 and SS2848 High Roof heavy-duty models.

The ZF AS Tronic automated manual transmission is a 16-speed, 2-pedal design first launched by ZF in 1997 and used by European manufacturers including Iveco, MAN and DAF.

Hino is the first Japanese truck manufacturer to offer the ZF AS Tronic in its vehicles.

Hino has specified the overdrive version of the ZF AS Tronic coupled to the E13C Hino 13-litre inline six-cylinder engine, which delivers 353kW at 1800rpm and 2157Nm of torque at 1100rpm.

The ZF AS Tronic features adaptive gear selection and a manual mode, with sequential-shift gear selection. As a result ratio changes are much faster than a pure manual transmission.

The gear selector level has positions for single and two-gear up-shifts or downshifts, with the gear in use shown on the dashboard display.

The ZF AS Tronic transmission can handle torque loads of up to is 2600Nm and in the Hino 2848 AMT, the ZF Intarder 2 integrated transmission retarder is fitted as a standard specification.

The ZF Intarder improves the life of service brakes while offering improved safety and performance with better control on descents. The Intarder is capable of handling between 80 and 90% of the task of slowing the truck when a trailer is connected.

The inclusion of the ZF AS Tronic AMT as an option is part of a significant product upgrade for the 2010 Hino 700 Series model line-up and offers reduced fuel consumption, reduced emissions and less maintenance for the driveline and braking system.
