Caterpillar, Truck,--Caterpillar Enter Truck Market

Caterpillar is to enter the road-going truck market and will unveil its first truck, the Cat CT660, at next year's Conexpo exhibition. The US Class 8 truck (above 15t) will be the first model in a full range and will be sold and serviced exclusively through Cat's existing dealers in North America. Cat will offer what it calls Vocational Day Cab Trucks to target operations from moving rock and hauling refuse to logging and pouring concrete. Engine options will include its CT11 (at 246kW to 290kW) and CT13 (305kW to 354kW) and in 2012 the CT15 will also be available with outputs between 324kW and 410kW.

Caterpillar design and manufacturing has been focused squarely on making the customer input. Dealers will provide support in the field as well as from the 24/7 Cat On-Highway Call Centre. The company will continue to support the 1.6 million truck engines in operation today and leverage this support with new vocational trucks.
