Sandvik, equipment, Q3,--Sandvik Q3 profit lags forecast

 STOCKHOLM Oct 29 (Reuters) - Tool and machinery maker Sandvik (SAND.ST: Quote) posted a smaller-than-expected rise in third-quarter earnings on Friday and said a stronger Swedish crown had robbed it of some of the benefits of firmer demand.
The Swedish company, which supplies equipment to sectors such as the mining and construction industries, reported operating earnings of 2.5 billion crowns ($452.5 million) crowns versus a year-ago 51 million and a mean forecast of 2.9 billion seen in a Reuters poll of analysts.
