What is going on here? Machine minimizes construction damage

Palmyra, MO —Within the  easements along Palmyra Road are  major avenues for utilities. Work along this corridor, and colorful flags and paint marked by Dig-Rite, are a frequent site during construction season.
Thursday morning, June 23, 2011, Dave Garber of Nashville, Tenn., was among the contractors working in this neighborhood. He was drilling pipe in the ground for new gas lines. The machine he was using is intended to prevent major excavation in resident’s lawns.
Directional boring, commonly called horizontal directional drilling or HDD, is a method of installing underground pipes and conduits along a prescribed bore path from the surface, with minimal impact to the surrounding area.
 Dave works for Hutchison Directional Drilling, which is home based in Tennessee.
