Putzmeister | Concrete poured for new bridge on Clinton Avenue as project nears completion

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - The contractor replacing the bridge on Clinton Avenue at Pinhook Creek poured concrete for the new bridge deck early Friday morning as the project inches closer to completion.
Crews with Miller & Miller Inc. started pouring concrete about 1 a.m. Friday and finished about eight hours later.
 It went exactly as we expected, said Mark Seeley, project manager for Miller & Miller.
The company is shooting to reopen Clinton Avenue to through traffic on Aug. 22 after the fresh concrete cures.
After the street reopens, workers will spend four to six weeks to complete the project. Work on sidewalks, bridge rails, lights and other small items will remain, Seeley said.
Paving work in front of the U.S. post office also remains, he said.
Clinton Avenue has been closed to through traffic since Jan. 6 for the $1.7 million project. Traffic has been detoured to Woodson Street, Holmes Avenue and Monroe Street while the street has been closed.
Oakwood Avenue repaving
Annette Banks asked by email if there are any plans to repave Oakwood Avenue between Memorial Parkway and Jordan Lane.
"I call the road ''patches'' because between Jordan Lane and North Memorial Parkway there are so many repair patches that make the ride rather bumpy," she said.
She said the road is particularly bad at Blue Spring Road intersection. "The dip there some times causes drivers to turn tight or too wide to avoid the dip in a turn," she said.
Oakwood Avenue is not on the city''s list for an upcoming round of repaving, but a city inspector will take a look at it, said Terry Hatfield, director of the city''s Public Works Services Department.
Big Cove lane closed
A lane on the 1700 block of Big Cove Road will be closed during working hours for the next two weeks beginning Tuesday for drainage improvements.
Reed Contracting Services will close one lane of Big Cove Road in front of 1701 Big Cove Road and 1710 Big Cove Road each week day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Tuesday.
