Norwegian group in BWTS and pump agreements 19 Dec 2011

Norwegian company Ing Per Gjerdrum AS (PG Marine) has entered into an agreement with offshore support operator DOF for the implementation of ballast water treatment systems on a large number of ships in the 70-strong fleet of DOF and its subsidiaries.

PG Marine is a global supplier of the Hyde Guardian BWTS (ballast water treatment system) to offshore service vessels, and under the agreement it offers DOF priority in engineering, design, hardware delivery and commissioning of the systems.

PG Marine expects the IMO resolutions for BWTS will become ratified during 2012, which will cause a surge in demand for systems. The requirement will be ratified when at least 30 IMO member flag states, representing 35% of world tonnage, have formally agreed the resolution. To date, PG says, 31 flag nations and 26,4% of tonnage have ratified the resolution, with several large nations on the point of signing.

PG says that to date it has secured orders for more than 100 Hyde Guardian systems, about 50% of the total Hyde Guardian worldwide sales so far.

In another agreement, PG Marine has entered into a co-operation agreement with specialist German pump manufacturer Putzmeister Solid Pumps to address what PG says is a rapidly rising, global market for drill cutting handling and transportation within the offshore oil and gas industry

According to PG, this is a logical cooperation, with PG Marine having developed its PG-MACS cargo solution for below-deck transportation of drill cuttings, among other cargoes, and Putzmeister through its highly specialised pumping solutions supplied to drilling rigs. The companies believe there is a significant market in the expanding oil and gas sector for effective handling solutions for large amounts of drill cuttings and drilling slops, accommodating environmental, personnel and economical interests alike.

By joining forces, PG and Putzmeister hope to create a wide portfolio of solutions for drill cuttings handling, in the safest, fastest and least resource-hungry way. PG says its PG-MAPS drill cutting subsea lift-pump C which the company claims works on the same principle as a human heart Coffers an efficient, hermetically enclosed pumping solution to extract drill cuttings from the drilling string on the sea floor, and pump the fluid to the surface, enabling enhanced drilling performance. The PG-RigMACS will transfer, store and discharge drill cuttings to the waiting OSV, which will ship and discharge drill cuttings via its onboard, below deck, PG-MACS cargo system to the shore base.
