Leyland in final stages of developing second product for India

Hyderabad, Jan 10 (PTI) Leyland Deere -- a joint venture between Ashok Leyland and John Deere, is in the advance stage of developing its second product -- a 'four-wheel drive wheel loadder' -- for the Indian market, a top company official said today. Ashok Leyland and John Deere entered the Indian Construction Equipment market to launch their first product, the 435 Backhoe Loadder in November last year. The next product on the anvil is 'four wheel drive wheel loadder', Ashok Leyland John Deere Construction Equipment Company's Chief Executive Officer P Ravi Shanker told reporters here. This programme is scheduled for launch in 2013 besides some more products would be announced in due course, he said. "We are still in the process of doing the testing of 2000 hours. Once it is done ... the final configuration and the features will be decided (for the wheel loadder)," Ravi Shanker said after launching sales of the 435 Backhoe Loadder here. The proposed wheel loadder can be used for handling coal, bulk and loose commodities at ports, he said, claiming this machine would be a superior product in the market. The 435 Backhoe Loadder is being manufactured at Leyland Deere's brand new facility near Chennai which has an installed production capacity of 8,000 to 9,000 Backhoe Loadder per annum. "We are watching the demand and ramp up production to cater to the demand. We will be building our business plan depending on how the demand picks up," Ravi Shanker said. The company's Vice President (sales and marketing) C Anand said they will open 62 outlet by April this year in southern states from the existing 22 and the product will be available nationally from the next fiscal.
