Shadeland, Ind. (WLFI) - Shortly before 9:30 Wednesday morning, the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department received a 911 phone call about a concrete mixer rolling into a pool. The accident happened near County Road 300 South and Henry Street in Shadeland. 

Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department Lieutenant Ron Faith said construction crews were trying to fill a pool with concrete when the embankment gave way. 

"The earth embankment gave way and the truck overturned into the pool," said Faith. "The worker that was in the pool was trapped under the truck." 

Faith said the worker, identified as 54-year-old William M. Harrison of West Lafayette, was pulled out from beneath the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

According to Faith, the driver of the truck, Timothy Burdine of Lafayette, was not injured but was taken to Franciscan St. Elizabeth East Hospital for routine drug and alcohol tests. Faith said at this time, they do not believe alcohol and drugs were involved. 

Sage Harrington lives next door to the scene of the accident and was leaving for school when the news broke. 

"Right when I first walked out of the house, I saw the truck flipped over and I didn't know anybody was under it," said Harrington. "I just thought it had fallen in." 

Harrington and other neighbors crowded around the scene waiting for news, good or bad. When Harrison was pronounced dead, Harrington said members of the neighborhood were devastated. 

"There's a lot of people crying and it got to me," said Harrington. "You know, when you're that close to death, it's just sad and scary."
