Victim Struck by Construction Debris in Critical Condition

A Tallahassee woman remains in critical condition after a Wednesday accident involving construction machinery on Mahan Drive.  The woman was struck by a concrete slab weighing over fifteen pounds while driving her vehicle.

Fifty-two-year old Mary Tuzik was driving with her 24 year-old son Casey along Tallahassee’s Mahan Drive when she was struck by a large piece of concrete debris Wednesday morning. Spokesman for the Leon County Sheriff’s Office James Mcquaig said the debris flew from a piece of heavy duty road construction equipment .

"The piece of concrete struck the driver, Ms. Tuzik, through the open window of her vehicle. She was injured in the incident. She was taken to the hospital," Mcquaig said.

Officials believe the injury to be unintentional and are unsure whether charges will be filed. Tuzik remains in critical condition.
